In September, while the nations
of the world were meeting in
Cancun to seek an agreement over ways of trading more
fairly with each other, members of St Francis de Sales
Justice & Peace
group decided to raise the awareness of their Catholic
community by organising a CAFOD-inspired "Food for the Journey" pilgrimage.
This consisted of a short walk into the countryside
behind the
church, with reflective readings and 'stories' from food
producers in the world's poorest countries. More than 20
took
part, including all ages (see picture above).
The 'pilgrims' were sustained by samples
of fairly traded products from the church's Traidcraft
stall. The parish
is
exploring ways of achieving closer links with a Catholic
parish
in Zambia as a means of expanding their knowledge and
understanding of the problems faced by developing countries.
